Kolme tosielämästään innoitusta saanutta pakolaistarinaa, jossa nuori on pääosassa. Nuori Josef pakenee Saksasta juutalaisvainoja ylitse meren. Isabelin taas kuljettaa omatekoinen vene meren ylitse Kuubasta kohti Yhdysvaltoja. Mahmoud taas matkaa Syyriasta useita kulkupelejä käyttäen kohti Saksaa. Kukin joutuu vaikeiden tilanteiden eteen ja laittamaan itsensä ja uskonsa likoon. Myös perheensä.

Kuvitus on realistinen ja toimiva. Varsinkin myrskyävät meret ovat pelottavan hienoja.
