Bree on kovan paikan edessä. Hän joutuu muuttamaan ja aloittamaan kaiken alusta. Mikä kamalinta, hän ei pääse matikkaklubiin kuten oli toivonut vaan päätyy koulun uimaryhmään. Bree joutuu kohtaamaan pelkonsa, sillä hän ei osaa uida. Onneksi hän saa apua niin uusilta ystäviltään kuin myös samassa taloyhteisössä asuvalta naapurilta. Äkkiä Bree huomaa, että maailma ei olekaan pelkkää matikkaa, vaan kiintoisia haasteita voi löytyä myös muualta.
Tärkeinä teemoina omien pelkojensa kohtaaminen, ystävyys ja anteeksi antaminen. Mukana on hienosti käsitelty myös rotuerottelua ja uimakulttuurin historiaa Yhdysvalloissa. Koulukulttuuri on selvästi amerikkalainen, joten sitä saattaa joutua avaamaan nuorimmille lukijoille. Muuten tarina on hyvin samaistuttavissa.
Kuvitus on värikästä ja rentoa. Pidän kovasti siitä, miten palapelejä on hyödynnetty osana tarinaa ja kuvitusta.
