Jane Deuxard is the pseudonym of a real-life couple – both journalists. They use an alias to protect their sources and their ability to work.

Minulle nämä lyhyet kertomukset avasivat aivan uudenlaisen kuvan naisten asemasta Iranissa. Kertomukset ovat valaisevia ja niiden lomaan on lisätty pieniä tietoiskuja esimerkiksi liittyen johonkin tapaan. Näin tietämättömämmällekin lukijalle valottuu tietoa tapojen takana.
Näissä tarinoissa pääsevät ääneen niin miehet kuin naisetkin. Naisten tarinoissa tulee ilmi paitsi tyytymättömyyttä myös tyytyväisyyttä. Miehet tuntuvat olevan jotenkin eksyksissä asemansa kanssa. Kaikki kertojat ovat “tavallisia” iranilaisia, eivät johtavaan eliittiin kuuluvia.
Kuvitus on omalla tavallaan raikas ja seurattava. Siinä on käytetty maanläheisiä värejä ja hahmojen ilmeet ovat ilmeikkäitä. Välillä kaunokirjoitusfonttia voi olla hankala lukea. Onneksi sitä on käytetty vain väliosissa.
