Fables-sarjakuvien vahvuus ja heikkous on siinä, että päätarina etenee todella hitaasti. Tällä kertaa lukija saa seurata Gepetton ja tämän tukijoiden kokousta, jossa punotaan ilkeitä juonia Fabletownin väen päänmenoksi. Eivätkä nämä suunnitelmat ole ollenkaan mukavia… Sivutarinoissa tavataan uusia hahmoja tai tutustutaan paremmin tuttuihin hahmoihin. Lisäksi Bigbyn ja Snow Whiten perhe-elämää seurataan hieman.
